Art-tastic update

Our 'Koru' influenced 'tree of life' pictures are starting to look fantastic, with the students really developing some strong blending and dabbing skills. Half of the class are painting sunsets and the other have decide to paint sunrise. Hopefully we are able to finish these off this week for you all to see.

How did they end up?

For those that guessed it (not many) the amazin raisins was in fact a culture of wild yeast that we grew. All of the groups managed to unscramble the mixed up bread recipe and make some chocolate buns. Those that worked out the correct amounts, baked great looking and delicious buns and those that got some measurements wrong ended up with not so great buns! It was an awesome end to an amazin mystery in Room 3. Here are some pictures.

Amazin Raisins

Here are some photos of our mathematical, measurement day of problem solving.

Mixed up recipe

Room 3 had a busy day today learning about measurements, following instructions and procedural writing. It was all down to our old friends the amazin raisins. We found that we had actually brewed up a culture of wild yeast and now had a starter for making bread. There was only one problem though. Someone had got onto mr Spice's computer and mixed up our recipe. The students had to get into groups use iPads and google to work our what the original measurements were. Here is a copy of the mixed up recipe. Can you work it out? All of our groups did in the end. We used grams, millilitres, cups, teaspoons, tablespoons, kilograms, and litres.

New Art Project

Room 3 have started a new art project inspired by the 'tree of life' by Gustav Klimt. We are drawing a tree and using a Maori influenced Koru design. Then we are using dabbing and compatible colours to paint our background focusing on texture and painting either sunrise or sunset. Here is a finished one as an example.

Amazin Rasin update

The amazin Raisins sat all week up the front of our class and they have transformed. They all started to float to the top and the water became bubbly.

We then poured them into a bowl, added some flour and mixed it in. The strange thing was that after a while the flour started to grow? I wonder what this could be? Maybe we will find out next week!

Jerome's last day

Jerome had his last day because he was heading off to Masterton. Room 3 threw him a great big goodbye party. We each brought a plate, hid in the class and surprised him with a great big cheer.
We will all miss Jerome!

New Art Project

Room 3 has joined forces with Room 4 for a new exciting art project. We are making cages made of string to hang from the roof of our classroom. First we got some balloons and inflated them. Then we tied a knot in the end and cut some small lengths of string. We dipped the strings in glue and wrapped them around our balloons. We will continue the rest tomorrow and keep you updated. In the meantime here are some pictures to keep you interested.

Descriptive writing

I slowly stepped away from the window and turned my attention to the door. I put my sweaty hand on the rusty door and slowly turned the handle. The hinges squeaked as I pushed it open and peaked through the door. A very old lamp was hanging over some sheets. I pulled them off. Just some old furniture. Cobwebs covered the entrances to different rooms  in the house. Then I looked up the windy staircase.

As I slowly walked up the creepy old stairway I looked around. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls. Suddenly I heard a rattling sound coming from the old pipes. A rat came out of a little hole in the staircase and...
